This work was completed while I was living in Pittsburgh, PA and represents my interest in Kinetic Sculpture (roto-relief project) and the work of Marcel Duchamp and John Cage. Many of the images are figurative with a very controlled graphic sensibility. The abstract forms come from books that teach conductors how to direct a variety of musical time signatures. At this time I was particularly influenced by Cage’s prints and drawings (see, VARIATIONS III No. 14, 1992) and fascinated with his philosophical approach to composition and the meticulous planning he used to generate seemingly abstract “musical scores”.
